UK researchers have developed a device to drag space debris out of orbit.

Most of you readers have probably heard by now of the great garbage patches in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Dire problems with potentially grave consequences for ocean ecosystems and food webs, as well as human well-being. Too bad there are no easy (read “cheap”) solutions. On the other hand, if reliable GPS service, or long-distance telephone calling is important to you, well, there’s a way to clean up empty space! (Nothing with a capital N according to Asimov) If only we could prioritize all our ducks in a row, maybe, just maybe, we could do the same for the little rock in space that we actually live on!
